Every child deserves the chance to dream, but for many children in Fiji, those dreams are hindered by undetected health issues. Recent data from our 2025-2026 school screenings highlights a critical reality: more than 1,000 children each year are identified with serious vision or hearing problems that require urgent medical referral.
The Impact of Early Detection
As featured in the Fiji Sun last week, Project HEAVEN Trust (PHT) continues to lead the way in school-based health interventions. Our teams travel across the country, from urban centers to the most remote maritime islands, to reach students from Year 1 through Year 12.
“When a child is found to have an eye or ear condition, they are referred to the nearest health clinic,” explains PHT Trust Board Director, Emma Ragg-Newland. “Our team then follows up to ensure the child receives the correct medication and that their condition is truly improving.”

Overcoming the "Distance" Barrier
For 25 years, Project HEAVEN has screened over 200,000 children. However, the work is never finished. One of our greatest challenges remains accessibility in rural areas.
To meet this need, we are excited about the introduction of our mobile clinic bus, recently sponsored by the Japanese Embassy in Fiji. This initiative will allow us to expand our reach beyond schools, providing affordable eye and ear screenings to adults and the elderly who currently struggle to access health facilities.
Visit Our Clinic
While our teams are often in the field, we also operate a public clinic at Toomey Hospital in Suva. We invite parents, guardians, and community members to visit us for affordable screenings and expert care.
Help Us Reach the Next 1,000
Our work aligns with Fiji’s national health policies, but we rely on the support of our community to keep our teams moving. Whether through awareness or donations, you are helping us create a safe, secure environment for Fiji’s children to grow and thrive.
